It's June Already?!

London, Ontario (June 12, 2008) -

My first month of "work" at Ohsweken has been interesting...I think Greg and I (mostly Greg) have been able to do a pretty good job considering we've been working from the top row of the grandstands while the press box gets finished. TJ was right though - I did forget everything I knew for the first little while, and I'm still doing things I hate, but I'm feeling better with each passing night.

The racing in the Ohsweken sprint car division has been even better than I expected, with 4 different winners in 4 weeks, and lead changes during the last 5 laps of the feature in each of the last 3 events...It has also been nice to see 18-19 Thunder Stocks (street stocks) in the pits each week. After years of 13 cars or less in that division, it appears things are on the upswing, and last week's feature was one of the best races I've seen all year, in any racing division.

Allison McLeod of Mississauga was part of a 32 car field of USAC Regional Midgets last night at Anderson, Indiana. She took home 9th and 8th place finishes as the tour ran double features. She is now 3rd in USAC Regional points heading into this Saturday's event at Grundy County Speedwa in Illinois.

The Can-Am Midgets had a couple of "celebrities" competing with them at Flamboro on Saturday night. ISMA Supermodified and occasional USAC Silver Crown driver Mike Lichty of Innerkip, and NASCAR Canadian Tire series driver J.R. Fitzpatrick were both in the field. Both finished outside the top 10. Mike Hooper of Cambridge has also been running in the Can-Am series this year, after some occasional supermodified races at Oswego and with the ISMA Supermodifieds over the past few seasons.

After a couple of races with Californian A.J. Russel behind the wheel, Gary Morton will look to a fellow Canadian to pilot his #70 Supermodified tomorrow night at Toledo for the "Fastest Short Track Show in the World". Ryan Litt will be doing double duty, driving Mort's super, as well as the family-owned #07 sprint car. Litt was fast qualifer in the sprint car division last season at Toledo. Last Friday at Delaware, Litt looked to be on his way to victory before a suspension failure put him out of the race.

I have more to say but no time to type it right now....drop me a line at tommygoudge@hotmail.com if you have a question, comment, etc...
