Some Random Thoughts and Observations...

London, Ontario (Thursday, April 18, 2008) -

...It seems to me that if the local Pennsylvania drivers deserve a nickname like PA Posse, then some other racing hotbeds deserve one too, starting with the locals in Ohio who race at Attica and Fremont every week. Posse driver-turned All Star Lance Dewease found out how tough the locals can be during the All Star Circuit of Champions Attica Sprint Clash on the 5th of April. Dewease ended up in victory lane at the end of the night, but Byron Reed was the driver to beat. From his starting spot in row 3, Reed, who has won 3 consecutive Attica track titles, chased Dewease down midway through the feature and - as Dewease admitted afterwards - would have been the winner had his fuel line held together. Video highlights of the event are available on www.HighVistaVideo.com .

A stellar 42 car field was on hand for the event, including Western PA visitors Ed Lynch Jr. and Bob Felmlee, and former World of Outlaws regular Randy Hannagan, who looks like he might chase All Star points this year. Lee Stark was also on hand, but did not advance from the B-main. Ontario fans will remember Lee as the driver who took one of Warren and Dick Mahoney's sprint cars for a ride over the 2nd turn wall at Ohsweken during a Canadian Sprint Car Nationals event after contact with Nick Mulheim...

...It's worth noting that Paul McMahan finished 7th at Eldora last Friday in the World of Outlaws feature, well ahead of Kraig Kinser, the driver who replaced McMahan behind the wheel of the Tony Stewart Motorsports #20, who ended up 21st after running the B-Main. McMahan's Rick Ferkel-owned #0 assuredly has a much smaller budget and not nearly the amount of resources that the Stewart team has at their disposal. The Saturday portion of the Eldora weekend was rained out...

...USAC announced yesterday that they are launching a new pilot division for sprint cars, moulded in the same fashion as their regional midget series. If successful, the series will be vying for cars along with the HOSS and AVSS series, so hopefully all 3 groups can work together to keep pavement sprint car racing healthy in the Midwest...

...It came to my attention recently that while there is a speedboat racing duo inducted in the London Sports Hall of Fame, Harvey Lennox is not. I think it is high time we do something about that. Visit http://www.londonsportscouncil.org/ to voice your opinion on the matter...
